It can be confusing, even in traditional media such as newspapers, to figure out what’s supposed to be straight news and what’s supposed to be opinion. The new media world of blogging doesn’t make it any easier.
So here’s how our site is set up:
– The emphasis of our Home Page is news. News articles are listed under the purple “Top News” headline on the top right and, lower down in the page, under the “Capitol News,” ”K-12 News,” “Healthy Schools” and “Higher Education” headlines. You will never find blogs or commentary containing opinion here.
– The rotating photo box on the top left also links to news articles. On the odd occasion when it may link to a blog or commentary containing opinion, it will be labeled as such.
– The only spot on our Home Page routinely devoted to blogs and commentary is in the middle of the page underneath the purple “Opinion” headline. When you click on that headline, or on the brief blog summaries shaded in purple underneath it, you are automatically taken to another site, our Opinion site.
– The top of the opinion site reads “EdNews Colorado Opinion and Commentary.” Along the right side, you’ll see ways to “Meet the Bloggers” and a blogroll of other interesting opinion sites. To get back to the news site, just click on the “Home” button or the purple EdNews logo at the top of the page.
EdNews Publisher Alan Gottlieb oversees all operations but chiefly handles the blog and opinion site and writes a weekly newsletter with his thoughts on all things education. Todd Engdahl, the Capitol editor, and Nancy Mitchell, news editor, deal exclusively with the news sections. Click here to read our staff bios.
