He may be proud, but he knows that he’s unelectable. His self imposed lame duck status allowed him to alienate the traditional Democratic party supporters.
Without student and parent accountability, SB 191 will be just another reminder that Colorado continues to neglect public schools. This legislation was passed and signed by the governor without significant, conclusive research that demonstrates teachers are more important to student success than parents. In fact, research reveals that students most successful are from those families that share at least one meal together, daily, and converse with each other. In other words, parenting is as important as teaching. That’s not to diminish the role of the teacher. For the marginal student, from a home where little interaction takes place and few meals are shared, a motivating teacher can mean the difference between success and failure. Still, the student must be willing to learn and disciplined to do so. Teachers must teach and students must learn. That equation has been overlooked in SB 191 because, as stated, students and parents, vital stakeholders, are not held accountable.
