As a proud Manual alum, and as an educator who has long looked up to Rob, it is hard to find the words to describe the heroic work he has done in the last several years. Rob’s belief in ALL kids, in equity of opportunity, and in fighting the good fight inspire me a great deal. However, what’s most notable, especially with all the press and attention Manual’s turn-around received, is that this never became “Rob’s School” or “Rob’s Project.” In a world that tempts cult of personality and ego, Rob Stein is ever-humble and always knew that this work was bigger than him. If there’s a better example of putting kids first, I don’t know it.
From what I know of Rob Stein’s work, Rebecca is quite right. As a next step in seeing his vision become a reality, maybe… just maybe, Rob Stein would consider a run for DPS Board of Education next year. He would be an ideal choice for Denver kids.
Rob, you’ll be missed as a rare D.P.S. leader who has a high expectation for what a school district can and should do to support the students, staff and leaders at the school site. Don’t roam too far and keep advocating for the work of the schools!
