  1. Pastor Vernon Jones Jr. says:

Mr. Gamel’s passion for children and getting better outcomes for them should be our focus. It has been amazing to me to meet someone who put his money where his mouth was. He invested in our campaigns for the children. He didn’t give for personal gain. He wanted who he felt were the right people on the DPS Board; people who would be driven by nothing but better outcomes for children. I took offense to comments made by candidates who said, “Thomas Gamel bought this seat” when referring to the victory of Mary Seawell. If fear is your only weapon then that’s what you use. Elections cost money. You have to reach the voters and when people aren’t informed about forums, don’t attend forums, and media coverage is zip, money has to be spent to reach them. That’s politics 101. You have to reach the voter with your message so that they are informed and hopefully cast their ballot. If you have 68,000 voters and just say it cost $1.00 to send each of them a piece of literature, that’s already $68,000. Things might be cheaper if you had forums and all 68,000 of those people attended to be informed. That’s not our reality. I think the cost of campaigns is outrageous, but it doesn’t change the reality that they cost money. I thank Mr. Gamel and all of our supporters for hearing our ideas, our plans, and our passion, and for responding by contributing to help us get the message out. Our children deserve better and it is incumbent upon us to quit playing political games, posturing and grand standing, staying neutral, being uninformed, and bickering and battling over things that have nothing to do with better outcomes for students. I applaud Mary, Nate, Andrea, and Jeannie. They know that they have a partner in me but let it be clear that they will all be held accountable for every public and private promise they made to improve things in DPS. I say the same thing to Bruce, Arturo, and Theresa. Our children deserve better, lead well and we can give it to them!

    Together we can…Together WE will!
