We are watching Colorado from here in Florida. Our constitution says the state has a "paramount duty" to provide "adequate funding" for a "high quality" education.

To answer Ed, above, when the laws appear to butt up against the constitution, i.e., there is a conflict of laws, then the courts decide which law wins out. The right to be heard in court is equal to the right to elect representatives who enact laws through a political process. The people reserve the right to say "out of bounds" when the politicians go out of bounds.

I would certainly agree after reading it, that it's a very odd decision. :-)
Weird, even.

I am truly humbled today upon receiving this news.
Hell has frozen over!
May the children of Colorado finally receive the attention and funding they have always deserved. The state's inclination to educate its own children poorly and expect better-schooled workers to come into the state later to fill the gaps, has long been a sorrow in my heart.
Not just as a mother, but -- as a human.
Thank you, Supreme Court, for telling us that you do see our kids and understand that they both need, and deserve, that one thing that nobody can ever take from them: an education.
